Sometimes called Brain Abscess, Intracranial Abscess is a pus-filled swelling in the brain that usually starts when bacteria enters the brain tissue after surgery, ear infection, sinus infection, head injury and infection. This becomes serious and life threatening if not handled early. There are between 1,500 and 3,000 cases each year and most likely affected adult men. Treatment is challenging but can be helped with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to repair tissue and exert bacteriostatic. HBOT is well tolerated, safe, and prospective studies have been administered as a treatment of brain abscesses. Benefits include reduced brain swelling and decreased mortality rate.
